June 28, 2012 – West Island Community Shares congratulates the graduates of Portage Rehabilitation Centre for adolescents, the newest group supported by Community Shares.

Portage is a non-profit group that helps young people to overcome drug or alcohol addiction and go on to lead healthy, productive lives. Ten teenagers from the Portage West Island centre recently celebrated their high school graduation. West Island Community Shares is proud to support Porage and congratulates the graduates on their achievement!

June 25, 2012 – Congratulations to Maison des Jeunes Pierrefonds on its 25th anniversary.

For a quarter of a century this group has offered a safe haven and activities to West Island teens. Maison des Jeunes is one of the 36 charitable groups West Island Community Shares helps to fund.

June 15, 2012 – Congratulations to the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre on winning the Community Shares Award at the West Island Chamber of Commerce Accolades Gala.

The prize is awarded to a community group that has had a positive impact in the West Island. Founded in 2008, the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre offers as a complement to traditional medical services, professional resources, educational programs and support for people living with cancer and their loved ones. Community Shares is proud to count the Centre among the 36 community groups it supports. For more information about the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre, go to www.wicwc.org.

In the News in 2011

Many local media outlets attended a press conference held at Pfizer Canada (founding partner) on April 1, 2011 to announce that West Island Community Shares raised a record $1,000,000 in its 2010-2011 campaign!  On April 13th, 100% of this amount was distributed to 35 local charitable groups at Community Shares' annual Fund Distribution Event. 

At the press conference, Caroline Tison Executive Director, was joined by a panel composed of Yolande James, MNA for Nelligan and Minister of Families, Geoff Kelley, MNA for Jacques Cartier and Minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs, Pierre Marsan, MNA for Robert Baldwin, Paul Lévesque, President - Pfizer Canada (founding partner) and Russell Williams, President of Rx&D and founding member .
