3/23/2023 SPECIAL REPORTThis booklet was developed to recognized all those who contributed to the success of West Island Community Shares over the years. In addition to our generous donors, a number of people have left a significant legacy.
We are thankful to our founders, Russell Williams, local MNA at the time, Robert Vokey from the McConnell Foundation, and Alan Bootes, President of Pfizer Canada in 1998. Without them, we wouldn’t exist. There were also Pierre Arvisais and Roger Morin, board presidents in the early days, who were instrumental in providing stability and growth to the organisation. Finally, we would like to recognize the excellent work of Lucie Fournier, the first executive director, and Caroline Tison, who led the organisation for 10 years, for playing a crucial role in shaping who we are.

SNOWSUIT CAMPAIGNTHIS WINTER, HELP KIDS BUILD SNOWMEN AND FORTS, MAKE SNOW ANGELS AND HAVE SNOWBALL FIGHTS! One of the tragic impacts of the inflation that is currently going on is that many low-income families will struggle even more this year to afford warm winter clothing for their children. That is why West Island Community Shares, in collaboration with BMO BANK OF MONTREAL WEST ISLAND BRANCHES, are raising funds & in-kind donations to provide brand-new snowsuits, hats, neck warmers and warm mittens for vulnerable West Island children. #GOT YOUR BACKWhen it comes to academic success, making sure that children have all the school supplies they need is only one piece of the puzzle. Providing homework assistance to children whose parents can’t help with their homework, tutoring programs tailored to the child’s needs, mentoring those who are isolated, and offering after-school programs to help identify at-risk teens, are all critical elements needed to support academic success. This is why we are turning to you for help this summer with our #GotYourBack to school campaign. #GotYourBack means offering school supplies. #GotYourBack means homework assistance. #GotYourBack means offering mental health support. #GotYourBack means reaching out to at-risk youth. #GotYourBack means offering tutoring programs. #GotYourBack means so much more than a backpack. All of these programs are offered by several community organisations and are designed to meet the youth where they are, be it at school, at home, at a youth drop-in centre, or anywhere else we’ll find them. But these organisations need your help to maintain and grow their services. During these times of high inflation, low-income families will definitely feel the pain of this year’s back to school season. Caisse Desjardins de l’Ouest-de-l’Île is proud to partner with Community Shares for this year’s back-to-school, and we commit to doubling your donation throughout the summer until September 15th. Please join us by making a donation as a sign of solidarity with other West Island families. Raise your hand and say proud & loud… #GotYourBack. P.S. Thank you in advance for your generosity and if you have recently made a donation to Community Shares, please accept our deepest gratitude.
