West-Island Community Shares Announces Appointment of Sophie McCann as Executive Director
November 16, 2018 – Pointe-Claire: Michel Béland, President of the Board, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sophie McCann as the new Executive Director of West-Island Community Shares, effective immediately. Sophie was selected after a thorough search involving outstanding candidates. She is already well known by our stakeholders since she was acting as interim Executive Director of Community Shares since September 10th and had previously performed volunteer work with some of the community groups supported by our organization.
Prior to joining Community Shares, Sophie was the principal and owner of SimpleXpression, a West-Island based communications firm specializing in communications and philanthropy. Sophie has a proven track record of leadership, project management and marketing expertise throughout her career in the pharmaceutical industry. She is also the founder and organizer of Obstafun, a fundraising event benefitting Community Shares. During her short interim, Sophie clearly showed her passion for the community, her energizing creativity and her focus on results.
‘’We have an ambitious goal to raise $1.3 million this year for local community groups and we are confident that the residents and businesses of the West-Island will rally behind Sophie and our Community Shares’ staff to reach and surpass this goal’’ said Michel Béland, President of the Board. ‘’It is a great honor for me to join such a great organization and its wonderful team. Twenty-one years after its creation, our mission to support local community groups is more relevant than ever. The need of our residents is ever growing; more than 65,000 West-Islanders turned for help to one of the 40 community groups we support last year and 63% of those are under the age of 25. I look forward to making a positive difference in the lives of all West-Islanders’’ concluded Sophie McCann.
