Obtaining a deep understanding of our groups’ missions and activities
- Committee members are assigned to a handful of groups allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of their mission and activities.
- They meet with their groups at least twice per year to have in-depth conversations about their activities, challenges and plans for the future.
- Once funds are allocated, they follow up to ensure the funds are used as intended.
- They are responsible for reviewing reports, conducting site visits, and ensuring accountability and transparency in the use of funds.
Having the necessary information to make impactful decisions
- Each year, this committee recommends to our Board of Directors how to allocate available funds based on priorities, needs, and the potential impact of the funding.
- They contribute their time, experience, and perspectives, to help ensure a well-rounded, balanced decision-making process.
- Having both staff and volunteer professionals on the committee allows for a mix of operational knowledge and outside expertise.
- Each year, a thorough financial analysis of all groups is completed by an accountant.
- They ensure that the distribution of funds follows legal guidelines and ethical standards, avoiding conflicts of interest or favouritism.
- Volunteers, coming from various sectors help uphold the organization’s integrity by offering an unbiased perspective.

Our Fund Distribution Committee is made up of 12 individuals who work one-on-one with community groups throughout the year ensuring that funds are allocated and distributed according to specific criteria.
Transparency and accountability are cornerstones to building trusting and lasting relationships with our donors and community groups. Therefore, the allocation procedures in place are professional, clear and thorough. The Fund Distribution Committee carefully reviews the requests submitted by new groups, evaluate the Annual Impact and Evaluation Report sent in by existing groups and personally visit the groups receiving funds on an annual basis. In total, over 800 hours a year are spent by the committee members to make sure that your donation has the desired impact in our community. Funds are distributed in two instalments, the first being in May and the second in August. |
